Lincoln County is located in the central part of Minnesota and is bordered by Lyon and Redwood counties to the west, Murray County to the north, Pipestone County to the east, and Cottonwood, Watonwan and Brown counties to the south. As of 2019, Lincoln County had an estimated population of 5,721 with a median age of 42.9 years and a median household income of $50,993. Of that population, 95% are White, 0.5% are African American, 1.3% are Hispanic or Latino, 0.2% are Asian, 1.2% are two or more races, and 2.5% are Native American or Alaskan Native.

The majority of Lincoln County is rural with small towns scattered throughout. The largest town is Tyler with a population of 818 in 2010. Other small towns include Lake Benton (population 708), Ivanhoe (population 598), Hendricks (population 459), and Canby (population 2,615). The county has a total land area of 946 square miles with 33% being devoted to agriculture production and 16% covered by woodland.
