Marshall County is located in the northwestern part of the great state of Minnesota. It was formed on February 25, 1879, and named after William Rainey Marshall, the fifth governor of Minnesota, who served from 1866-1870. The county seat is in Warren, which was founded in 1871 and turned into a municipality in 1892. Marshall County is part of the state's agricultural area, with fertile soil, and typically a cooler climate, making it ideal for crop farming.

Historically, Marshall County has been inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Dakota and the Ojibwe. The first white settlers arrived in the region in the mid-19th century, with many being attracted to the area's abundant resources and agricultural potential. The fur trade was a significant industry in the early years, before it gave way to farming as the main economic driver. Logging was another industry that brought development to the area.

Today, Marshall County is known for its rich agricultural production, primarily of grain crops such as wheat, soybeans, and corn. In addition to agriculture, the county's economy is supported by industries such as health care, manufacturing, and education.

A fun fact about this region is that the county is home to Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge, which is located in the transition zone between the tallgrass prairie and the coniferous forest. The refuge was created in 1937 to provide breeding habitats for migratory birds and waterfowl, and today it spans around 61,500 acres, providing a diverse mix of wetlands, forests, and grasslands that support a wide array of wildlife species. It is a popular destination for birdwatchers, with about 275 bird species documented in the area.
