Roseau County is located in the northwest corner of the great state of Minnesota. Established on February 2, 1894, it was named after the Roseau River, which flows through the county. The river itself was named by French explorers, who called it "Rivire aux Roseaux," meaning "River of Reeds," due to the abundance of reeds and rushes growing along its banks. The county seat is the city of Roseau.

The rich history of Roseau County is rooted in its agricultural, timber, and manufacturing industries. During the late 19th and early 20th century, many immigrants, mainly from Scandinavia, settled in the county to pursue farming opportunities. The fertile lands and a suitable climate for growing crops and raising livestock contributed to the development of a strong agricultural community.

The timber industry also played a significant role in the area's economy as vast forests of pine, spruce, and poplar attracted the attention of loggers and sawmills. With more people moving to the area, settlements started to develop and expand.

One fun fact about this region is that Polaris Industries, a major manufacturer of snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and motorcycles, was founded in Roseau in 1954. Polaris is currently one of the largest employers in the county, providing jobs and supporting the local economy. The company also operates an Experience Center and an assembly plant in the city of Roseau, which are popular attractions for visitors to the region.
