Adair County is a county located in the northeastern part of the state of Missouri, United States. It was founded in 1841 and named after John Adair, a Kentucky governor and U.S. senator.

The county's early economy was based on agriculture and livestock farming, and it later became a center of manufacturing and transportation in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

One fun fact about Adair County is that it is home to the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, which was founded in 1892 and is one of the oldest osteopathic medical schools in the country.
