Barry County, located in the great state of Missouri, was established on January 5th, 1835, and was named in honor of William Taylor Barry, a U.S. Postmaster General and Kentucky statesman. This county is situated in the southwestern region of Missouri and is part of the Ozark Plateau.

The first settlers in the region were predominantly of English and Scottish descent, with a large population of Overmountain Men and their families, descendants of those who fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain during the American Revolutionary War. Agricultural production has always been a prominent feature in the county's history, with farming being the primary industry.

Cassville, the county seat of Barry County, was officially founded in 1845, and played a significant role during the Civil War. The city was occupied by both Confederate and Union forces at different times throughout the war, with several skirmishes taking place nearby.

One fun fact about Barry County is the existence of Roaring River State Park.
