Barton County, located in the great state of Missouri, was established on December 12, 1855. It was named in honor of David Barton, the first U.S. Senator from Missouri who served from 1821 to 1831. The county is part of the larger Missouri Ozarks region, which is characterized by forested hills, rivers, and springs. The county seat in Barton is Lamar, which gained prominence as the birthplace of the 33rd U.S. President, Harry S. Truman.

In the mid-19th century, the area experienced a population boom as settlers moved westward, primarily due to the fertile soil and resources that made farming and general sustenance possible. Early European settlers were a mix of German, English, and Irish immigrants, and agriculture has been the backbone of Barton County's economy ever since.

A fun fact about Barton County is that it is home to the Prairie State Park, one of the largest remaining tallgrass prairies in Missouri. This park not only offers visitors the chance to experience this incredible ecosystem, but it also provides a habitat for a variety of wildlife, including bison and elk, which were reintroduced at the park to help preserve the ecosystem. Visitors can take part in guided tours, hike on the park's scenic trails, and enjoy the beautiful landscape that makes this part of Missouri truly unique.
