Caldwell County is situated in the great state of Missouri and was officially established on December 29, 1836. The county was named in honor of John Caldwell, an early settler who participated in the Platt Purchase, a transaction which facilitated the establishment of Northwest Missouri. The county seat was first placed in Far West, but later in 1843, it was moved to Kingston, where it remains to this day.

Caldwell County holds significance in American history due to its connection with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon Church) and the founding of the city of Far West in 1836. Far West served as a gathering place for thousands of members of the Mormon Church and became its headquarters for a short time before the Latter-Day Saints were expelled from Missouri in 1838-1839.

A fun fact about Caldwell County is that there is a unique geological formation called "The Pinnacles" located near the town of Hamilton. This pair of limestone columns is a popular spot for tourists and locals, with several hiking trails providing access to this impressive natural landmark.
