Clark County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of Missouri. Established on December 16, 1836, it was named in honor of William Clark, the American explorer, soldier, Indian agent, and territorial governor who was also the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition between 1804 and 1806. The county seat is the city of Kahoka.

The first white settlers began arriving in the early 1800s, and the region was largely inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Sauk, Fox, and Des Moines. Some of the notable events in the history of Clark County include the Mormon War of 1838, during which there were some conflicts involving the Latter-Day Saints, and the Civil War, when the county experienced raiding and pillaging by both Confederate and Union forces.

Agriculture has played a vital role in Clark County's economy for much of its history, with crops like corn, wheat, and soybeans, as well as livestock farming, forming the basis of its agricultural sector. The economy has evolved over time to include manufacturing and service industries as well.

A fun fact about Clark County is that it is home to the "Battle of Athens State Historic Site," which marks the northernmost battle of the Civil War fought on August 5, 1861. The battle resulted in a Union victory, and the historic site now features preserved buildings, information, and events for visitors to experience and learn about this crucial chapter in American history.
