Clinton County is located in the northwestern region of the great state of Missouri. Established on January 2, 1833, it was named in honor of New York Governor DeWitt Clinton, a key figure in the construction of the Erie Canal. The county seat is Plattsburg, which was founded in 1833 and named after Plattsburgh, New York.

The area played a significant role in the early development of Missouri: as pioneers and settlers moved westward, Clinton County became a popular spot for agricultural communities that supported the state's growth. Thanks to its rich soil and access to the Platte River, the county has a long history of agricultural production, especially in corn, soybeans, wheat, and livestock.

As for transportation, the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad, which is regarded as the first railroad to cross Missouri, established a station in Clinton County in 1859. This railroad was instrumental in connecting the region to the rest of the country and contributed to its growth.

One fun fact about Clinton County is that it was briefly the home of Jesse James, the infamous outlaw. In July 1881, he and his gang, including Bob and Charley Ford, stayed in a rented house in the city of Gower while planning their next series of robberies. The house still stands today as a landmark in Gower and offers a glimpse into the county's past.
