Dade County, located in the great state of Missouri, was officially established on January 29, 1841. The county was named in honor of Major Francis L. Dade, a Virginian who was killed in the second Seminole War in Florida in 1835. Situated in the southwestern part of the state, it covers an area of about 506 square miles and is primarily known for its rich agricultural land and picturesque landscapes.

The county seat and largest city is Greenfield, which was founded in 1841 by G. W. Oliphant. Most of Dade County's early settlers were drawn to the region by the fertile soil for farming and raising livestock. By 1860, the county had a population of over 7,000 people, which continued to grow until the early 20th century. By 1900, the population reached nearly 11,000 but has since decreased to its current level of around 7,500 residents, as of the 2020 census.

Dade County played a role in the Civil War, with various skirmishes and battles taking place within its boundaries, including the Battle of Dug Springs and the Battle of Coon Creek. After the war, the county continued to grow and develop, with the arrival of the railroad and the advancement of farming technology.

One fun fact about Dade County is that it is home to the historic courthouse in Greenfield, which was built in 1883 and is still in use today. The courthouse is an excellent example of 19th-century architecture, featuring a three-story brick design with a distinctive clock tower. This historic landmark serves as a symbol of the rich history and heritage of the region.

Dade County, Missouri, has remained relatively unchanged over the years, retaining its rural charm and picturesque landscape, while being rich in history and heritage.
