Franklin County is a county located in the eastern part of the state of Missouri, United States. It was founded in 1818 and named after Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.

The county's early economy was based on agriculture and mining, and it later became a center of manufacturing and transportation in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

One fun fact about Franklin County is that it is home to the Meramec Caverns, a series of underground caves and passages that are open to the public for tours and exploration. The caverns were formed millions of years ago and were used by Native Americans and early settlers as a source of shelter and water. During the Civil War, they were used as a hideout by Confederate soldiers and as a secret laboratory by Union forces. Today, they are a popular tourist attraction and have been featured in several movies and TV shows.
