Gentry County, Missouri

Gentry County is located in the northwest region of the great state of Missouri. Established on February 14, 1841, it was named in honor of Colonel Richard Gentry, a native of Virginia who later served in the Florida War and was a prominent figure in the early settlement of Missouri. The county seat is Albany, which was designated in 1845.
Early settlers in Gentry County were primarily from the Upper South, with many hailing from Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee. Agriculture has long been a driving force in the county's economy, with crops such as corn, wheat, and soybeans commonly grown.
During the Civil War, the region experienced internal conflicts as Missouri was a border state, with both Union and Confederate supporters living within its boundaries. This often led to conflict between neighbors, resulting in a tumultuous period in Gentry County's history.
One fun fact about Gentry County is that, in 1909, it became home to the world's first "Bigfoot" sighting. In July of that year, a man named Palcrum claimed to have seen a 15-foot-tall, white-haired creature in a wheat field in the county. Although there is no concrete evidence to support this claim, it stoked public imagination and has since become a part of Gentry County folklore.
