Greene County is located in the southwest region of the great state of Missouri. Established on January 2, 1833, it was named in honor of General Nathanael Greene, a prominent Revolutionary War hero. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Osage and Delaware before European settlers, primarily of Scots-Irish descent, began to arrive in the early 1800s.

The county seat, Springfield, was established in 1829 and is often referred to as the "Queen City of the Ozarks" and the "Birthplace of Route 66." Springfield played a significant role in the American Civil War, most notably as the site of the 1861 Battle of Wilson's Creek, which was the first major battle fought west of the Mississippi River.

Over the years, Greene County has experienced significant growth and development. Today, it is known for its vibrant arts scene, educational institutions, and outdoor recreational opportunities, thanks in part to its location within the scenic Ozark Mountains.

Fun Fact: Springfield, the county seat of Greene County, is the birthplace of the iconic American dish, cashew chicken. This dish, combining Asian flavors with American fried chicken, was created in 1963 at the Grove Supper Club by chef David Leong, who later opened Leong's Tea House, thereby popularizing the dish. Consequently, Springfield, Missouri, is also known as the "Cashew Chicken Capital of the World."
