Harrison County, located in the great state of Missouri, was officially established on February 14, 1845. Named in honor of U.S. Congressman Albert G. Harrison, the county covers an area of approximately 726 square miles in the North Central part of Missouri. Its county seat is Bethany, which was founded in 1845 as well.

The region was primarily inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Iowa, Sac, and Fox, before European settlers arrived. In the early 19th century, white settlers began to inhabit the land due to the fertile soil and abundant resources. Agriculture, particularly the cultivation of tobacco, corn, and livestock, played a vital role in the development of the county. The growth of the county was further spurred by the arrival of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad in the late 1800s.

One fun fact about Harrison County is that it is home to Pawnee Bill's Historic Wild West Show, which is held annually at the Harrison County Historical Village and Bethany Fairgrounds. The event showcases the traditions of the American West, featuring cowboys, trick roping, and other exciting activities that pay homage to the western roots of Harrison County.
