Howard County, located in the great state of Missouri, can trace its origins back to the early 19th century. Established on January 23, 1816, it was named in honor of Benjamin Howard, who was the first governor of the Missouri Territory. A part of the Boone's Lick region, Howard County played an important role in westward expansion, as it served as a significant starting point for settlers heading west along the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails.

The region is rich in history, with its county seat of Fayette being home to the oldest college west of the Mississippi River, Central Methodist University, founded in 1854. Other notable historical locations include the historic town of Arrow Rock, which features preserved 19th-century buildings, and the significant Civil War Battle of Glasgow that took place in October 1864.

One fun fact about Howard County is that it was once considered one of the wealthiest counties in the United States during the 19th century, thanks in part to its fertile soil which made it a prime agricultural region for hemp and tobacco production. Additionally, the county's strategic location along the Missouri River further contributed to its economic boom by facilitating trade and transportation.
