Jasper County, Missouri, is situated in the southwestern region of the state and was officially established on January 29, 1841. It is named in honor of Sergeant William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero known for his bravery and resilience during the Siege of Savannah in 1779.

During the Civil War, the county experienced significant chaos and unrest, with both Union and Confederate forces clashing throughout the region. The Battle of Carthage, fought on July 5, 1861, was one of the key early battles of the war and took place within the boundaries of Jasper County.

The late 19th century saw rapid growth and development in the area, primarily due to the burgeoning railroads and the local mining industry. The city of Joplin, the county's largest city and the center of the Joplin Metropolitan Area, sprung up following the discovery of lead and zinc in the area in the 1870s. This mineral wealth quickly earned Joplin and the Jasper County the nickname "The Tri-State Mining District".

A fun fact about Jasper County is that it was once home to Bonnie and Clyde's hideout. The infamous criminal duo, along with their gang, used a quaint garage apartment in Joplin as a hideout in 1933. This hideout was discovered by law enforcement who engaged in a shootout with the gang. Despite the ensuing chaos, Bonnie and Clyde managed to escape, but left behind a trove of personal possessions, including photographs that were later used to identify them.
