Linn County, located in the great state of Missouri, was established on January 6, 1837. Named in honor of Senator Lewis F. Linn, who represented Missouri in the United States Senate, the county is part of Missouri's greater Northwest region. The county seat is Linneus, which was named after the famous Swedish botanist, Carl Linnaeus.

The growth and development of Linn County were significantly influenced by the construction of railroads in the 1850s-1860s. The Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad played a crucial role in contributing to the area's economic prosperity. As a result, several towns, such as Brookfield, Marceline, and Bucklin, emerged along the railroad tracks, serving as commercial and transportation hubs for the region.

During the Civil War, Linn County experienced skirmishes and guerrilla warfare. On July 21, 1861, Confederate forces led by Col. Martin E. Green attacked the small Union garrison stationed in Linneus. The Union soldiers managed to repel the attack and forced Green's forces to retreat. Numerous other smaller engagements also took place in the region during this time.

Agriculture has been the backbone of Linn County's economy throughout its history, with corn, soybeans, and livestock being the primary agricultural products. In recent years, the county has also grown into a center for renewable energy production, with wind turbines dotting the landscape.

Fun Fact: Linn County is home to one of the largest annual rodeos in Missouri - the Linn County Fair and Rodeo, held in Brookfield. This event is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, featuring exciting rodeo competitions, parades, and various family-friendly activities.
