Montgomery County, located in the great state of Missouri, was initially established by European settlers and officially founded on December 14, 1818. It was named in honor of General Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War hero. The county is part of the productive agricultural region of Missouri, with fertile farmland and an abundance of natural resources.

The early economy of the county was primarily based on agriculture, with crops like corn, wheat, and tobacco playing a significant role in its growth. With the arrival of the railroad in the 1850s, Montgomery County saw a boost in trade and transportation, further promoting its development.

In the Civil War era, Montgomery County had several skirmishes and bushwhacker activities, with both Union and Confederate supporters living within its borders. The county courthouse in Danville was even burned down during one particular conflict.

Today, Montgomery County is a vibrant and diverse community with strong agricultural roots. It houses several wineries, as part of the Hermann AVA (American Viticultural Area), which produces various wines, including the prized Norton grape.

Fun fact: Montgomery County is home to the annual Graham Cave State Park Spring Fling, a popular event that showcases live historical interpretations and reenactments, giving visitors a glimpse into what life was like in the county's early days.
