Morgan County is a county located in the central part of the state of Missouri. Created on January 5, 1833, it was named after Gen. Daniel Morgan, a distinguished Revolutionary War hero known for his victory at the Battle of Cowpens. The county was formed from portions of Cooper and Cole Counties, and its county seat is located in the town of Versailles.

Historically, Morgan County attracted settlers from various places such as Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky, with the majority engaged in agriculture. Over time, the county developed a thriving economy based on agricultural products, particularly corn and wheat, poultry, dairy products, and livestock. Versailles, the county seat, is named after the famous French palace and was established in 1854.

An interesting fact about Morgan County is that it is home to the Jacob's Cave, the largest cave in Missouri, known for its spectacular beauty and underground formations. Discovered by German immigrant Jacob Wolf in 1842, Jacob's Cave attracts thousands of tourists every year to explore its impressive natural wonders, such as the reflective pools, prehistoric bones, and mesmerizing stalactite formations.
