Oregon County, located in the southern region of the great state of Missouri, was officially established on February 14, 1845. Its territory was derived from the larger Ripley County. The county seat is Alton, while Thayer, a larger city by population, serves as an economic hub of the area. Oregon County is part of the scenic Ozarks highland region, which stretches across Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

The region was initially inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Osage and Delaware. European settlers, primarily of Anglo-American origin, began inhabiting the area in the 1810s. Oregon County has been predominantly engaged in agricultural activities, with a focus on livestock farming, over the years.
