Perry County, located in the great state of Missouri, has a rich historical background. Established on November 16, 1820, it was named after Oliver Hazard Perry, an American naval officer who was prominent during the War of 1812. The county is situated in the southeastern region of Missouri, and the county seat is Perryville.

The area was originally settled by French and German immigrants in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. French settlers built a mission in 1734, and the first European settlement was established in 1764 called Sainte Marie des Natchitoches. After Spanish ruling, the land returned to French hands for a short period before it became part of the United States through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.

In 1821, Perry County was officially organized, and shortly after that, the town of Perryville was laid out as the county seat. The county saw significant growth during the mid and late-19th century, with many people moving there for farming opportunities, as well as the mining of valuable resources like iron, limestone, and timber.

During the Civil War, Perry County was a site of conflict, with many of its residents taking part in various military campaigns. Though no large battles took place within the county, it was the birthplace of Missouri Governor, Trusten Polk, who later became a Confederate Senator.

Now, Perry County, with its strong agricultural and manufacturing sectors, is home to numerous historical sites and natural attractions. A fun fact about Perry County is that it is also known as "Jurassic Park" of Missouri because it is home to Tower Rock, a popular formation of limestone that has witnessed over 180 million years of geological history. This rock formation, known as a "karst," has attracted tourists and paleontologists for years and has helped reveal much about the prehistoric landscape of this region of the USA.
