Platte County is located in the northwestern region of the great state of Missouri. Established on December 31, 1838, it was named after the Platte River, which flows through the county. The name "Platte" originated from the French word for a shallow or flat river, reflecting the geography of the region. The county seat is Platte City, which was founded in 1841 by Zadock Martin and was originally called Martinsville.

In the early 19th century, settlers were attracted to the fertile land around the Missouri River, and the county was seen as an important location for trade and travel. It played a significant role in the westward expansion of the United States, with the town of Weston serving as an outfitting point for pioneers heading west on the Oregon Trail. The town of Parkville on the Missouri River was also a hub for riverboat travel and trade.

During the Civil War, Platte County experienced several skirmishes between Union and Confederate forces. The Battle of Bee Creek took place on July 1861, in which the Confederates defeated Union forces.

One fun fact about Platte County is that it is home to the Kansas City International Airport, which started operations in 1972. The airport is a significant transportation hub and serves as a representation of the progress and development that has shaped Platte County over the years.
