Saint Clair County is located in the great state of Missouri and was officially established on March 4, 1841. It was named in honor of Arthur St. Clair, a notable Revolutionary War general and statesman. The county is part of the Osage River watershed, with its county seat being the town of Osceola.

In its early years, the county's economy was largely driven by agriculture, timber, and coal production. As the railroads expanded in the 19th century, towns like Appleton City, Lowry City, and Roscoe developed along the Kansas City, Osceola, and Southern Railroad lines, connecting the communities and further supporting the growth of the region.

Settlement of the region began in the early 1830s with pioneers primarily coming from the southern states, drawn by the fertile soil and abundant timber resources. The county played a role in the American Civil War, with the Battle of Osceola taking place in September 1861. Confederate forces under General Sterling Price captured the town, and in the aftermath, infamous Confederate guerilla fighter William Quantrill burned and looted much of Osceola, leaving it largely destroyed.

One fun fact about Saint Clair County is that it is home to Truman Lake, a reservoir formed by the construction of Truman Dam on the Osage River. The lake offers numerous recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, and camping, serving as a popular destination for residents and visitors alike.
