Wright County is a county located in the southern portion of the state of Missouri. Established on January 29, 1841, the county is named in honor of Silas Wright (1795-1847), a prominent politician from New York who served in both the United States Senate and House of Representatives. Wright County is part of the larger Ozark region, known for its picturesque views, rolling hills, and forests, with a landscape that attracts tourists and nature-lovers alike.

The county seat and the largest city in Wright County is Hartville, named after the town in Kentucky, from where many early residents of Hartville, Missouri originated. The economy of Wright County primarily relies on agriculture, with significant production of cattle, hay, and poultry. Additionally, the region is also known for its small businesses, manufacturing plants, and healthcare services.

The Gasconade River is one of the most notable natural features in Wright County, meandering through the county for over 60 miles. This river is a popular destination for fishing, canoeing, and other recreational activities.

Fun fact: Wright County played a key role in the development of Missouri's timber industry during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In particular, the small town of Norwood, located within the county, was a hub for the railroad and logging industries, with vast tracts of timber being harvested and shipped by rail to various markets. Today, remnants of this history can still be found in the town, serving as a reminder of this important era for the region.
