Fallon County is located in eastern Montana and was established on December 9, 1913. It was created from the southern part of Custer County and named after Benjamin O. Fallon, a pioneer rancher who first settled in the area in the 1880s. The county seat is Baker, which was established in 1908 following the construction of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Pacific Railroad through the county. The railroad was instrumental in the rapid settlement and growth of Fallon County.

The county covers an area of about 1626 square miles and is predominantly agricultural, with cattle ranching and farming being the primary economic activities. Wheat, barley, alfalfa, and hay are among the main crops cultivated in the area. Fallon County has also experienced periodic oil booms throughout its history. The first oil well was drilled in 1920, and several oil fields have been discovered, including the Cedar Creek Anticline, which is among the largest oil-producing areas in Montana.

A fun fact about Fallon County is the existence of the Medicine Rocks State Park, a hidden gem of the region, which covers approximately 330 acres. The park features fascinating sandstone formations-some reaching as high as 80 feet-bearing ancient Native American petroglyphs. These formations were once considered sacred by the Plains Indians, who used the area for fasting and vision quests.
