Glacier County, located in the great state of Montana, was established on February 17, 1919, carved from the northern part of Teton County and the eastern portion of Flathead County. It was named after the outstanding natural feature of the region, Glacier National Park, which is situated along its northern border. Spanning an area of 3,037 square miles, Glacier County is home to a rich blend of Native American history, as it is partially situated within the Blackfeet Reservation.

Prior to European settlement, the Blackfeet Tribe was the predominant indigenous group in the area, a close-knit group of tribes known for their hunting abilities, especially in relation to buffalo. The first Europeans to explore the region were fur traders in the early 19th century. Later on, it became a significant area for the construction and operation of the Great Northern Railway in the late 1800s and early 20th century.

One fun fact about Glacier County is the marvel of the Triple Divide Peak, located within Glacier National Park. This unique geological feature is the hydrological apex of North America, where water, depending on which side it falls, will flow into the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, or the Arctic Ocean through Hudson Bay. This incredible natural phenomenon makes the Triple Divide Peak a must-see attraction for those visiting Glacier County in Montana.
