Teton County, located in the great state of Montana, was established on May 11, 1893. It is named after the Teton Mountains, a prominent range that runs along part of its western border. The county seat is the town of Choteau.

The region was initially inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Blackfeet and the Piegan people. In the early 1800s, fur traders, trappers, and explorers began to make their way into the area, leading to increased interactions between the native tribes and European settlers. The Lewis and Clark Expedition traversed the region in 1805, further opening up the area to exploration and settlement.

In the late 19th century, the cultivated land started to expand with the arrival of homesteaders who were mainly involved in ranching, farming, and sheep herding. The growth of the railroad during this period also played a significant role in the development of Teton County. With the completion of the Great Northern Railroad in the late 1800s, towns like Choteau and Dutton were established, leading to a population boom in the area.

One fun fact about Teton County is that it is considered a "dinosaur paradise," being home to the Old Trail Museum and Two Medicine Dinosaur Center in Choteau. These institutions exhibit several important paleontological finds from the region, including a significant number of dinosaur eggs and nests discovered from the Two Medicine Formation. This region of Montana is therefore a fantastic destination for both researchers and enthusiasts who are eager to learn more about prehistoric life in North America.
