Treasure County, located in the great state of Montana, was established on February 7, 1919, and named with the hope that it would become a "treasure trove" of wealth and prosperity. Its county seat is the small town of Hysham, which serves as the economic and social center of the county.

The region has a rich history, tracing back to Native American tribes, such as the Crow and Sioux, who originally inhabited the area. European explorers arrived in the late 18th century, and the area eventually became part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Lewis and Clark's famous expedition traversed through Montana, leading to an increased interest in the region.

In the late 19th century, the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railway brought economic development, and settlers were drawn to the land in search of agricultural opportunities. Cattle and sheep ranching were among the early thriving industries, which provided much-needed food sources for the mining camps in Montana. However, as the population grew, local farms diversified producing grain, sugar beets, and other crops.

One fun fact about Treasure County is that it has been nicknamed the "T-Rex Capital of the World" because of the discovery of numerous dinosaur fossils in the region, including the famous dinosaur "Peck's Rex," a near-complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton found near the town of Hysham in 1997. This makes the region a haven for paleontologists and dinosaur enthusiasts.
