Wheatland County is a beautiful region situated in the great state of Montana, USA. The county was established on February 22, 1917, and has a rich history mainly characterized by its agricultural background. Covering an area of 1,428 square miles, Wheatland County is nestled in the heart of Central Montana, with the majestic Little Belt Mountains adding breathtaking beauty to the landscape.

The county seat and the largest town in Wheatland County is Harlowton, which was founded around 1900 as a result of the construction of the Montana Railroad, a significant milestone in the county's almost two-century-long history. Harlowton not only acted as a crucial junction for two rail lines, but it also served as a central hub for the transportation of local agricultural products and goods in and out of the region, mostly wheat, livestock, and timber.

One fun fact about Wheatland County is that it was home to the "Jawbone Railroad," which was officially known as the Montana Railroad. The railroad was given this nickname due to Charles M. Bair, a wealthy entrepreneur and sheep farm owner in the area. He was known for his great negotiating skills, especially his ability to "talk the jawbone," so his financial backing to the railroad earned it the unique nickname.

Wheatland County's beautiful landscape, agricultural history, and fascinating backstory make it an enriching part of Montana's heritage.
