Lee County is located in the great state of North Carolina, USA. The county was established on March 6, 1907, and was named in honor of General Robert E. Lee, a renowned Confederate commander during the American Civil War. Sanford is the county seat and the largest city in the region.

The history of Lee County dates back to the Native American tribes, such as the Catawba, Tuscarora, and Waccamaw Sioux, that initially inhabited the area. European settlers later arrived and began to establish communities, primarily focusing on farming and lumber production.

The area experienced an economic boon with the arrival of railroad lines, especially the Raleigh and Augusta Air-Line Railway in the 1870s. These rail connections fostered the growth of the agriculture, lumber, and brick-making industries. One of the main contributors to the local economy was (and still is) the Sanford Brick Corporation, which was founded in 1899.

Throughout the 20th century, Lee County communities continued to develop, with its population growing steadily. The region has diversified its economy in recent years, branching out into sectors such as biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, and tourism.

Fun fact: Lee County is also known as the "Brick Capital of the USA" because it contains the highest concentration of brick manufacturers in the country, thanks in part to its rich clay deposits. This nickname exemplifies the importance of brickmaking in the region's historical development and current economy.
