Randolph County is located in the heart of North Carolina and was established in 1779, named after Peyton Randolph, the first President of the Continental Congress. Originally, the county was part of a larger territory known as Rowan County, which was created in 1753. However, as the population grew, it was divided to form smaller counties like Randolph.

Randolph County played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War, with the Battle of Guilford Courthouse taking place nearby in 1781. This battle was a key event leading to the American victory, as it weakened the British forces and hastened their surrender at Yorktown.

In the 19th century, Randolph County was a thriving hub for agriculture, manufacturing, and pottery production.
