Yadkin County, located in the heart of North Carolina, was established in 1850 when it was carved out of Surry County. Named after the Yadkin River, which runs through the county, Yadkin County played an early role in the development of the state due to its central location and fertile lands.

The area that is now Yadkin County was originally inhabited by native tribes, including the Saponi, Keyauwee, and Tutelo.
