Eddy County is located in the northeastern part of North Dakota, USA. It was established by the North Dakota legislature on March 09, 1885, from Foster County's western halves. The new county's organization was completed on April 27, 1885. It was named in honor of Ezra B. Eddy, a pioneering businessman from Minnesota who was also involved in politics.

The original county seat was at Acton, but in November 1885, it was relocated to New Rockford, which remains the county seat to this day. New Rockford was named after Rockford, Illinois, the hometown of the individuals who founded the city. Eddy County's rich history includes Native American inhabitants, fur trading pioneers, and settlers from a diverse mix of European backgrounds.

Agriculture has historically been, and continues to be, the predominant industry in the region. Primary crops grown in Eddy County include wheat, barley, sunflowers, corn, and soybeans. The county also has a substantial beef cattle industry.

One fun fact about Eddy County is the existence of the Prairie Rose Carousel in New Rockford. The carousel was originally built in 1895 by Charles W. Parker of the C.W. Parker Amusement Company. Known as Carousel No. 119, it was initially a traveling carousel, touring around the country. In 1985, after a century of use, it was bought by the Eddy County Historical Society and refurbished. It is now housed in a special building in New Rockford's City Park and serves as a popular local attraction, providing an insight into the region's cultural history.
