Golden Valley County is located in the western part of North Dakota, USA. Established on November 13, 1912, the county was named after the beautiful golden color of the valley during the harvest season. It has a land area of 1,011 square miles (2,618 square kilometers) and is part of the Great Plains region, which is known for its rich agricultural lands and resources.

The county seat of Golden Valley is the city of Beach, which was founded in 1900 by C.M. Beach, a railroad official. During the early 20th century, large-scale farming became popular in this region, with wheat and flax being the primary crops produced. As of the 2020 U.S. Census, the county population was 1,694, making it one of the least populated counties in North Dakota.

An interesting fun fact about Golden Valley County is that it is home to the North Dakota state fossil, a marine reptile named Teredo Petrified Wood. These fossils are preserved in the region's badlands, along the Little Missouri River.
