Griggs County is located in the eastern part of North Dakota, USA. Established in 1881 and named in honor of Alexander Griggs, a riverboat captain and one of the founders of Grand Forks, Griggs County has a rich history rooted in agriculture and the railroad industry. The county's establishment was made possible due to the arrival of the first settlers, predominantly farmers, who began to populate the region in the late 19th century. The Great Northern Railway played a significant role in the development of the county as the rail system brought a network of transport for agricultural products.

Cooperstown, founded in 1882, serves as the county seat and offers historical landmarks like the Griggs County Courthouse, which dates back to 1884. Agriculture remains a driving force in the region, with diverse production of crops such as wheat, corn, soybeans, and edible beans, as well as dairy and livestock farming.

One fun fact about Griggs County is that it hosts the Oscar-Zero Missile Alert Facility and the November-33 Launch Facility, relics from the Cold War era. These sites are part of the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site, which now serves as an educational resource for people to learn about the role North Dakota played during the Cold War. The site offers guided tours of the facilities to showcase the history of the Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missile system, providing an interesting and unique experience for visitors to Griggs County.
