Ramsey County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of North Dakota, USA. The county was established on January 4, 1873, by the territorial legislature and was officially organized on October 4, 1883. The county seat is Devils Lake, a city that serves as a commercial and cultural hub of the region. The county itself covers an area of around 1,188 square miles, with approximately 11,700 residents as of the 2020 Census.

Originally, the land was inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Dakota and Chippewa, who have a rich cultural history in the region. In the 1800s, Euro-American settlers began to establish themselves in the area, largely driven by the expansion of the Great Northern Railway.

The county was named in honor of Alexander Ramsey, the first Governor of Minnesota Territory, who later went on to serve as the second governor of the state of Minnesota. While North Dakota was still a part of Minnesota Territory in the mid-1800s, Ramsey played an influential role in its development and expansion.

As for a fun fact about the region, the name "Devils Lake," which serves as the county seat, might suggest a nefarious origin. However, the name actually comes from a misunderstanding of the Native American name given to the lake, which means "Bad Spirit." The lake was called this because of the high salinity of its water, which made it unsuitable for drinking. The misunderstanding came from the translation of the word "spirit" to the word "devil" when the lake's name was anglicized. Despite this, Devils Lake is home to a thriving recreational area and a state park, offering various activities, including fishing and boating, that draw countless tourists each year.
