Rolette County, located in the north central region of the great state of North Dakota, was established on January 4, 1873. The county was named in honor of Joseph Rolette, a prominent fur trader and politician in the area. Rolette County is part of the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, which is home to the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians whose ancestors have lived in the region for centuries.

The county's economy has been historically based on agriculture, specifically wheat and cattle production. The county seat of Rolette County is Rolla, a small town of just over 1,200 residents. In the early days of the county, the Soo Line Railroad played a significant part in its growth and transportation.

A notable fun fact about Rolette County is the existence of the International Peace Garden, which straddles the border between Rolette County, North Dakota, and the Canadian province of Manitoba. Established in 1932, the 2,339-acre park symbolizes the friendly relationship between the United States and Canada. The park features thousands of flowers, plants, and several monuments reflecting the theme of international peace and friendship.
