Sargent County is located in the southeastern part of the great state of North Dakota. It was established on April 5, 1883, by the territorial legislature and later organized on June 3, 1884. Sargent County was named in honor of Darius H. Sargent, an early settler and a prominent businessman in the area. The county seat is Forman, which was named after Eugene M. Forman, a local resident and prominent real estate developer.

The early settlers in Sargent County were primarily of European descent, including Norwegians, Germans, Czechs, and other nationalities. These settlers were attracted to the fertile soil and wide expanses of land suitable for farming, particularly wheat. As a result, the economy of the region has been largely centered on agriculture, with notable crops including corn, soybeans, and sunflowers.

Coteau des Prairies, a large glacial deposit known as a moraine, runs through Sargent County. This prominent landscape feature was formed approximately 10,000 years ago when the last glacier receded. The area is characterized by a series of rolling hills and plateaus, which offer picturesque views of the surrounding prairie and farmland.

One fun fact about Sargent County is that it is home to the Tewaukon National Wildlife Refuge, which spans more than 8,000 acres. Established in 1945, this refuge was created to provide a habitat for migratory birds and preserve local wetlands.
