Traill County is located in the eastern part of North Dakota, USA, and is considered a part of the Red River Valley region. The County was officially established on January 12, 1875, but its history extends back to the early 18th and 19th centuries. It was initially inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Dakota Sioux and later the Chippewa. With Euro-American settlement in the early 1800s, the county would eventually become an important center for agriculture, trade, and transportation.

The county was named in honor of Walter John Strickland Traill, an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company and first settler in the Red River Valley. The Hudson's Bay Company, founded in 1670, was the oldest land-owning organization in Canada and played a significant role in shaping the history of North America.

Traill County expanded significantly during the westward expansion era when the Northern Pacific Railway and the Great Northern Railway built rail lines through the area. These railroads connected the county to the east and west, leading to rapid population growth and economic development.

Agriculture has always been an essential industry in Traill County. The region is particularly known for its fertile soil and favorable climate, making it ideal for growing numerous crops, including wheat, corn, soybeans, and potatoes.

As for a fun fact, Traill County is home to the Goose River Golf Club, the oldest golf course in North Dakota. Established in 1899, the course provides a beautiful and challenging golfing experience for players who wish to experience a piece of North Dakota history while enjoying the great outdoors.
