It is one of the most rural counties in North Dakota, with a population of 11,739 according to the 2020 U.S. Census. The racial makeup of Walsh County is 96.6% White, 0.3% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 2.3% from other races, and 0.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.0% of the population.
