Ward County, located in the great state of North Dakota, has a rich historical background. It was established in 1885, and was named in honor of Mark Ward, a prominent and well-respected Chairman of the House Committee on Counties during that period. The county seat and largest city in Ward County is Minot, which was founded in 1886 as a junction on the Great Northern Railway.

Due to its strategic location, Ward County experienced rapid population growth in the early 20th century. It also became a major center for agriculture and transportation as the economy grew. Today, agriculture remains an important industry in the county, particularly in the production of small grains like wheat, barley, and oats. Additionally, cattle, sheep, and hogs are commonly raised on local farms and ranches.

Throughout its history, Ward County has also been home to several military installations. Minot Air Force Base, an important installation which houses both nuclear-armed missiles and long-range bombers, was established in the 1950s and continues to be a significant presence in the region today.
