Adams County, located in the great state of Nebraska, has a rich history that dates back to the mid-19th century. The county was officially established on June 2, 1871, and named after the second U.S. President, John Adams. Hastings, the county seat, was founded in 1872 by a group of settlers from the East Coast led by Civil War Captain W. D. Wilcox.

Before European settlement, the region was home to Native American tribes such as the Pawnee and Sioux, who hunted the abundant bison that roamed the area. In the 1850s, the first settlers arrived, primarily attracted by the fertile land suitable for farming. This land allowed agriculture, mainly focused on corn, wheat and livestock, to flourish and become the backbone of the county's economy.

In the 1860s, the construction of the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad brought economic prosperity to the area, as Hastings became an important railway town, linking the East and the West. The city has also been recognized for its role in the 1887 Kool-Aid history, where Edwin Perkins invented the famous drink in Hastings in 1927. This fun fact about the county attracts numerous visitors every year, especially during the annual Kool-Aid Days Festival.

Today, Adams County continues to thrive, with a population of approximately 31,000 residents. Agriculture is still the dominant industry, but other sectors such as healthcare, education, and manufacturing have also gained prominence. Adams County is known for fostering a strong sense of community and a high quality of life for its residents.
