Boyd County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of Nebraska, United States. It was originally established in 1891 and named after James E. Boyd, the eighth Governor of Nebraska, who held office from 1891 to 1892. The county is known for its agricultural-based economy, as well as its beautiful landscapes that include rolling hills, fertile plains, and portions of the Missouri River and its tributaries.

One notable historical event that occurred in Boyd County was the development of key transportation routes. Before the construction of the railroad in the early 20th century, steamboats provided a significant means of transportation on the Missouri River. This allowed Boyd County and nearby areas to prosper through trade and agriculture, and facilitated the growth and development of the towns along the river, such as Lynch and Monowi.

Speaking of Monowi, here's an interesting fun fact about this region of the USA: Monowi, located within Boyd County, is the smallest incorporated town in the United States. It has only one resident, she acts as mayor, bartender, and librarian of this unique little town.
