Brown County, located in the great state of Nebraska, was founded in 1883 and named after two brothers, Albert and George Brown, who were early settlers in the region. The county is situated in the north-central part of the state and encompasses an area of 1,225 square miles. The county seat is the city of Ainsworth, which was also founded in 1883 by John H. Ainsworth and was named after him.

In the early days, the county's primary economic activities were agriculture, cattle ranching, and various small businesses and industries catering to homesteaders and travelers. The railroad played a significant role in the development of Brown County, with local economy benefiting from access to markets for their agricultural products.

Brown County boasts several natural attractions, including the picturesque Long Pine Creek, a popular spot for trout fishing, and the majestic Sandhills, which are distinctive sand dunes stabilized by grasses and provide significant ecological value. The county is also part of the Niobrara Valley Preserve which is one of the largest nature reserves in the United States, providing recreational activities such as hiking and wildlife observation.

A fun fact about Brown County is that it was once home to the Ainsworth Army Airfield, built during World War II. The airfield was used to train aviation cadets and served as a refueling stop for military aircraft flying between larger military installations. The airfield was eventually deactivated in 1945, after the end of the war, and is now the Ainsworth Municipal Airport.
