Cass County is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Nebraska. Established in 1855, it was one of Nebraska Territory's original eight counties, named in honor of General Lewis Cass, a Michigan senator, and a leading Democratic candidate for president in 1848.

The area was initially settled by European-Americans in the early 1850s, with many settlers coming from Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri. Cass County has a rich agricultural history, primarily focusing on corn, soybeans, and livestock production.

One key historical landmark is the Old Avoca Schoolhouse. Built in 1925, this historic red-brick schoolhouse now serves as a museum, showcasing the early educational history of the area.

A fun fact about Cass County is that it is home to the "World's Largest Porch Swing," located in the City Park of the county seat, Plattsmouth. This larger-than-life attraction can accommodate 25 adults at once and is an excellent spot for a unique photo opportunity for visitors.
