Frontier County is located in the southwestern part of the great state of Nebraska. It was established on February 1, 1860, and covers an area of about 980 square miles. Named for its position as the frontier of settlement at the time, Frontier County's creation was an important part of the westward expansion in the United States.

The region was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Pawnee, Otoe, and Sioux tribes. These groups had lived in the region for thousands of years before European American settlers began to arrive in the mid-1800s. The Oregon and California Trails, along with the Pony Express, were important routes that passed through the area and helped to contribute to the early settlement of the county.

Frontier County's population boomed during the Homestead Act of 1862, when land was offered to settlers who were willing to reside on and cultivate the land. Many pioneer families moved to the area in search of new opportunities and created small towns and agricultural enterprises. Farming, ranching, and railroads became essential driving forces for the county's economy during these early years.

The county seat of Frontier County is the city of Stockville, which was officially designated in 1872. Over the years, other towns such as Curtis, Eustis, and Orafino have been launched and developed in the county. Today, the county remains predominantly rural, with agriculture as the mainstay of the local economy.

One fun fact about Frontier County is that it is home to an annual "Eustis Body Shop Open House and Classic Car & Snowmobile Show," which celebrates the restoration of classic cars and snowmobiles in the region. This event is a reflection of the hardy spirit of Frontier County residents, embracing both the history and progression of the region.
