Garden County, located in the great state of Nebraska, was established on November 2, 1909. It was formed from a portion of Deuel County and named in honor of the abundant natural grass gardens found on the prairie lands in the region. Garden County covers 1,731 square miles and has a population of approximately 2,000 residents. The county seat is Oshkosh, situated along the banks of the North Platte River.

The region was initially inhabited by several Native American tribes, including the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Pawnee, relying on the fertile land for hunting and sustainable plant life. In the mid-19th century, western expansion and the construction of the transcontinental railroad brought European-American settlers to the area.

One interesting aspect that makes Garden County stand out is the historical Ash Hollow State Historical Park located within its boundaries. Ash Hollow was a significant landmark along the Oregon and California Trails during the peak of westward migration in the mid-1800s. The park has preserved wagon ruts, a cave, and a visitor center sharing the region's rich history, making it a popular destination for those interested in the early trails and local history.
