Gosper County is a rural county located in the great state of Nebraska, USA. Established on March 2, 1873, the county was named after John J. Gosper, who served as Nebraska's Secretary of State from 1871 to 1875. The county's total area is approximately 463 square miles, and as of the 2020 census, it has a population of around 1,990 residents. Its county seat is the small town of Elwood.

Gosper County's history can be traced back to the mid-19th century when settlers started moving to the area to take advantage of the fertile farmland provided by the Platte River Valley. The earliest settlements appeared in 1872, when the Burlington and Missouri (B&M) Railroad Company began selling land grants near Elk Creek in the southern portion of the county. This attracted homesteaders seeking fertile agricultural land and opportunities for trade and commerce along the expanding railroads. The county remains largely agricultural today and is an important producer of corn, soybeans, wheat, and livestock.

One fun fact about Gosper County is that it is home to Johnson Lake, a popular recreational spot that covers 2,068 acres. The lake serves as a hub for water activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming, as well as camping and picnicking on its shoreline. Johnson Lake State Recreation Area is a favorite destination for locals and visitors looking for outdoor fun and relaxation in the natural beauty of Nebraska.
