Hooker County is a small, scenic county located in the Sandhills region of Nebraska, USA. The county was named in honor of American Civil War General Joseph Hooker and was officially established in 1889. It has a land area of about 721 square miles, and its county seat is the village of Mullen.

Hooker County's history is deeply rooted in the experiences of the Native American tribes who inhabited the land, primarily the Sioux and Pawnee tribes. European settlers and cattle ranchers started to move into the area during the late 19th century, leading to the gradual expansion of towns, farms, and ranches.

The development of railroads played a significant role in shaping the county, with the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad arriving in the region in 1888. This development spurred economic growth and attracted more settlers to the area.

One fun fact about Hooker County is that it is home to the Sand Hills Golf Club, one of the top-ranked golf courses in the United States. Opened in 1994, this golf course was masterfully designed by architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, and covers an area of more than 8,000 acres. The Sand Hills Golf Club offers golf enthusiasts a world-class experience in a remote and beautiful setting, blending perfectly into the natural Nebraska landscape.
