McPherson County, located in the great state of Nebraska, was officially established on March 31, 1887. Named after the Civil War General James B. McPherson, the county was geographically situated in west-central Nebraska. The area of McPherson County was initially a part of Lincoln County before it gained its separate identity. The early settlers of McPherson County were primarily cattle ranchers and farmers, who were attracted by the vast open spaces and rich grasslands that were traditionally grazed by buffalo.

A small but significant event took place in the county in 1890 when the McPherson County Courthouse was built in the town of Tryon, which was designated as the county seat. The simple two-story wooden structure served the county's administrative needs during its early years.

The economy of McPherson County has primarily been supported by agriculture, with cattle ranching and farming being the backbone of the community. In more recent years, however, the county has seen growth in the areas of wind energy and natural gas production.

One fun fact about McPherson County is that it is one of the least populated counties in Nebraska. As of the 2020 census, the county's population was just around 485 residents. This low population density provides a peaceful, rural environment for those who call McPherson County home.
